Blog #12, Fall 2025

This week started off with a visiting artist presentation from Pheboe Scott! It’s always great to get to watch and learn from different processes from different artists. She gave a live demo as well as an artist talk, and it was great to learn more about her making process and how she got to where she is now. After class, we all got to have short studio visits with her. I hadn’t had my language about my work down,/ wasnt able to articulate it well. That was made clear during our meeting. To her, it felt like I was reaching for too much, but I just knew I had to get my ideas straight. After our meeting, I was a little discouraged, but I knew I had to use this feedback to get my ideas tight. After class, I finished one of my vessels by putting a spout on the front as well as the stamp I had been working on. I spent the days I wasn’t in the studio researching old maps of the land my family farm is on, as well as looking through childhood photos to use. Thursday, we had the reception for the juried student show after class. I left all my work uncovered after class on Tuesday and loaded a bisque with all my work for the woodkiln on Thursday. I got back in the studio on Sunday night after work to glaze and get all my images on my pieces. The cobalt wash I tested earlier in the semester came out black, so I did some tweaking to the recipe, but didn’t have time to retest it at cone 10. So a lot of hoping and praying that it turns out how I think it will in the wood. We were going to start loading the kiln on Monday, so this was my last day to get everything ready.
