Blog #4, Spring 2026

Monday and Tuesday are the only days Mia has off right now, so I really try to spend as much time together as we can. We usually have a game night with some friends on Monday because that is also the day most of our friends have off as well. During class, we had a great artist talk and demo from visiting artists. I really enjoy and appreciate when we get to have those and to gain new information and techniques from different artists. After that, I mixed a quick couple of cobalt slip tests I wanted to try out. Tuesday night, I teach my six-week wheel-throwing course, and I really enjoy getting to see my students’ progress. Wednesday, during class, I made some progress on my two pieces, and they are taking shape nicely. Thursday, I finished both of the forms, and afterwards I went and checked out the show upstairs. Friday, I spent the day doing chores around the house and giving myself a break after a productive day yesterday. Saturday, I did some research about Syracuse since I got an interview with them. I wrote down as many relevant questions as I could think of and important things to know about the program. After that, I looked through some pictures for images that would work nicely with these new pieces. On Sunday, I went to the studio and made a mold of a railroad spike that I found. When I was little, my brother and I used to walk the train tracks by our house, looking for loose or already out spikes. I am not completely sure what I want to do with it yet, but having a mold will allow me to do quicker tests on them. I wanted to throw on Sunday, but was still feeling pretty sore, so I decided to stick with just mold making and mapping out images. My interview was later that day, so I knew I needed to get out of the house because I was a nervous wreck all day.
