Blog #10, Fall 2025
Monday, I had work, but got to have some friends over for dinner after I got off. We made homemade pasta, and after we ate, we went to the pumpkin walk at Iroquois park which was really fun. The next day, I spent the class period mixing a new clay body because I had gotten to the end of my current one. I wanted to test out the sandy stoneware for the wood kiln at the end of the semester. I want a lighter body that isn’t as red so that the flashing from the kiln is more evident, as well as the images I'm planning on putting on the pieces. Besides that, I didn’t get much else done that day besides cleaning up my studio a bit. Next class I started to pieces at once. I’m really trying to push to get some more portfolio pieces done for the wood. I decided to build two at the same time because this clay body needs a little more time to set up, and going back and forth gave me that. I got decently far on both pieces. I am turning my focus towards American stoneware pots, which I feel a deep family connection to, but I explain that more in my artist statement. I am hoping to flesh that out and make it clearer soon. I didn’t get back in the studio for the rest of the week.
